What To Do On A Sick Day
Well This week I am sick and it stinks to just have to lay around when you have so much to do.  So below are some fun retro activities to do when your sick!

  • Watch some Oldies but Goodies like;

  1.  1953 Roman Holiday
  2. 1961 Breakfast At Tiffany's
  3. 1953 Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
  4. 1953 How To Marry A Millionaire
  5. 1965 How To Murder Your Wife

  • Watch some old rediculous scary movies!  Netflix is filled with them.  My favorite is The Creature From The Black Lagoon but there are also good titles such as;
  1. 1931 Bela Lugosi's Dracula
  2. 1959 House on Haunter Hill
  3. 1958 The Fly
  4. 1960 Little Shop Of Horrors
  5. 1958 It! The Terror From Beyond Space
  • Watch modern retro movies such as The Help or Pleasantville
  • Become obsessed with a new TV show like Mad Men or Pan Am
  • Read a good book either a novel or some fun household tip books, its amazing what you can learn from them
  • Online Shop (one of my favorites)! Look at some fun retro shops and even sites like Etsy and Ebay can have super fun retro things and antiques

These are just a few helpful ideas. Remember drink lots of soup & FEEL BETTER!!!

Christmas Shopping

Christmas Shopping Tips and Hints

  • Check Amazon: One thing I've learned during the Christmas season is that some stores try to steal your money.  A Good way to make sure your getting the best deal is before purchasing things in store, check the prices on Amazon.  They usually have about the best price you can find for the item unless it is on sale at a store.  www.amazon.com
  • Use Coupons:  Starting a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving you will not only get Black Friday coupons which is a GREAT time to get Christmas Presents if you can stand the crowds, but also continuing on through Christmas everyday in the mail you will continue getting magazines and catalogues and newspapers.  Don't just throw them away, look at them.  You'd be surprised at what great sales and coupons you will find!
  • Keep Track of Presents:  I tend to get a little over excited about Christmas and immediately want to wrap the presents when I get them.  The problem is sometimes I forget what the presents were and when they open them on Christmas it is just as much of a surprise to me as it is to them.  Keep Track of all the presents you need to find as well as the presents you have already bought for them.  Make a fun spread sheet and make sure to hide it from those to whom the gifts are for.
  • Make A Wish List: So many stores and websites today offer making Wish Lists for Birthdays and Christmas as well as Weddings.  This is a great way to avoid having Aunt Martha knit you an ugly sweater, or giving your Children clothes that don't fit.  Make yourself a Wish List as well as your Children.  They will have a blast going through Amazon or Target looking at all the Toys and fun things they want.  It will especially help with out of town relatives because most sites offer a Gift Wrapping option as well.  By having your children make a Wish List you can even figure out exactly what your Children want for Christmas.

Most Important Tip of All:  Have Fun!

Who said wearing a cute little dress can't be fun?

    I love dresses! Half of my closet is full of adorable sun dresses and they are my favorite thing to wear.  Many think that because I love the 50's and like to wear cute dresses that I'm an anti-feminist, but this is not true.  I am all for equality between men and women.  But where does it say that just because I'm a woman and I work, I can't dress feminine?  One thing great about being a woman is the freedom to wear whatever I please.  If a man went into work wearing a dress, he would get fired.  I don't see anything wrong with sprucing myself up for the day.
    Take 10-30 minutes in the morning to spend a little more time picking out something to wear, or even the night before.  Do your hair.  Whether its just running through with a straightener or taking a little extra time to put a few curls in.  Also dab a little make-up on.  A little powder, splash of blush, and some mascara never hurt anyone.  My mother used to say "Every barn looks better with a fresh coat of paint."
     Don't do this for others.  Do this for you.  I know I feel ten times better when i can look in the mirror and say "Today I look nice." It boosts my confidence and I go through the day in a better mood.
    So run to Dillard's, Ross, or even the Thrift store and treat yourself to a cute new sundress.  Make it a goal for the next week to spend a little extra time getting ready in the morning, for you!
